Conference Presentation ·6 February 2015

SESA Scientific Meeting, November 2014

Seven papers

Seven research papers were presented at the Biennial Scientific Conference of the Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia (SESA) in Melbourne in November 2014, five by Dr Cutbush and the remainder by colleagues.

The papers

  • Arthroscopic release for frozen shoulder: early results in 15 patients. Pain, function, range of movement and satisfaction scores all improved, though only five of the 15 had reached six-month follow-up.
  • The Inspace absorbable balloon prosthesis: results in seven patients.
  • Labral repair in arthroscopic Latarjet surgery: 22 patients, with average satisfaction scores rising from 12 before surgery to 82 afterwards.
  • Arthroscopic subscapularis repair: more than 20 repairs, all of which appeared intact on MRI.
  • Arthroscopic AC joint ligament reconstruction: a technique description.
  • Arthroscopic posterior bone block: initial results, presented by Dr Kieran Hirpara.
  • Deltoid reflection for surgical exposure, presented by Dr Libby Anderson.

How to read these results

These are early results from small series, presented at a conference rather than published, and in several cases with short follow-up and no comparison group. They indicate which lines of work are worth pursuing rather than establishing what any of these techniques achieves. Individual results vary.
