Excited to share our recent study published in JSES International: “Improving glenoid guidewire placement in shoulder arthroplasty: a comparative study of mixed reality holographic overlay technique with freehand technique and conventional navigation.”
As pre-operative planning advances in shoulder arthroplasty, precisely executing that plan remains essential. Our study showed that mixed reality systems significantly improved guidewire inclination accuracy versus freehand techniques. Helping reduce the risk of mispositioning, though they still didn’t outperform navigation on all metrics.
It’s promising to see how these technologies can enhance surgical consistency and we’re keen to explore future combinations of these approaches.
