Arthroscopic ACJ Reconstruction

Dr Cutbush has had a scientific paper published in the Journal of Arthroscopy – Arthroscopy Techniques. The paper describes a new procedure to reconstruct Acromioclavicular joint dislocations with an all arthroscopic technique. The technique reconstructs not just the coracoclavicular ligaments but also the acromioclavicular joint capsule and ligaments. Reconstructing the acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) ligaments in addition to the coracoclavicular ligaments gives a significant increase in strength to the reconstruction. It is anticipated that this large increase in the strength of the arthroscopic construct will lead to lower failure rates of the ACJ reconstruction. Dr Cutbush is currently undertaking a research project to determine if success rates using this technique are higher than previously described procedures. All arthroscopic techniques are generally associated with lower complication rates and less postoperative pain and morbidity. It is anticipated that this will be an advantage of this all arthroscopic technique for patients undergoing this procedure.
